How can stories of miraculous and supernatural happenings help us reconstruct histories of rebellious deeds? In this talk, we will explore the question above through accounts of an uprising in early eighteenth-century Kandahar led by Mīr Ways Khān: attending to the dream-visitations of dead Caliphs, the prophecies uttered by dervishes wandering along riverbanks, the sky-splitting power of mystical lyric, and more.
In this workshop, Dr. Tanvir Ahmed of the Austrian Academy of Sciences will be discussing his upcoming article: "Miraculous Edges of Rebellion: Religion and the Making of Mir Ways Khän's Uprising."
This event is invite only. To attend, please sign up for the Workshops & Colloquia email list. You will receive regular event reminders of recurring series in Islamic History and Sharia Law.
