We would like to invite you to a graduate student and young scholar workshop co-sponsored by MEI that is scheduled for this coming Friday and Saturday, October 7-8, titled "Beyond Circulation: Non-Western Universalisms and Global Histories of Science." Participants will discuss pre-circulated dissertation chapter drafts by the presenters, who are advanced PhD students and post-docs from several schools in the consortium, specifically Columbia, Penn, Princeton, Cornell, Harvard, and NYU. Presenters will also be sharing primary sources that their work draws upon to open up discussions of method and compare disciplinary approaches to interpreting documents and texts. As its title suggests, the workshop focuses thematically on intersections of intellectual history and history of science, and geographically on the non-Western world, primarily the Middle East and East Asia.
