Moving Beyond Climate "Crisis": Critiquing Frameworks of Emergency and its Ethical Consequences

We are excited to present a conversation highlighting the intersections between climate equity, moral urgency, and local action in disrupting narratives around the climate crisis. As we continue to organize for climate justice, in what ways does it become imperative to recognize the failure of the dominant narratives in creating a false dichotomy between equity and climate action? In what ways might this perpetuate coloniality? With a diverse group of panelists, this discussion aims to identify the co-optation of the climate “crisis” or “emergency” narrative and attempts to move beyond these rhetorical restraints. This event hopes to recenter equity and moral urgency in order to radically alter the heart of the climate discussion.
